When Chris Christogeorgis was born in 1943 in Agiassos, Lesbos, no one could have predicted that he would become one of the first Greek-origin mayors in Australia! Driven by the hope of a brief return to his homeland, the islander eventually found his second homeland in the Antipodes. As the owner of a real estate agency, an evening school teacher, and the mayor of the St Nektarios Parish-Community in the suburb of Burwood, Chris’ story demonstrates that it is not one’s origins that matter, but the determination to realise one’s dreams.
