Olga Kanitsaki – the resilient Greek woman born in 1940 in a small, emerald-green village in Chania, Crete. The courageous immigrant who left her homeland for a continent where women had greater access to education and opportunities. The dynamic nurse who rose to become a hospital director and, subsequently, an academic. While lecturing at La Trobe University, Olga pursued her Master’s and Doctoral degrees. During this time, she tirelessly advocated for the delivery of culturally relevant and equitable care to people from diverse linguistic backgrounds in Australia and globally. In recognition of her work, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia and later included on the Victorian Honour Roll of Women. A person who dedicated her life to saving others.
