Dimitra Micos was born in Kalamata, in the Peloponnese, but would cross uncharted seas to settle in a welcoming yet distant land: Australia. Throughout her life, she took on various roles: migrant, Vice President of the Hellenic Lyceum of Sydney, and member of the board of the Greek Welfare Centre of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia. Yet, the roles of wife and mother have been the most defining for her. Her work in social service continues to this day, with the “compass” of her efforts always pointing to the homeland she left, but never forgot.
