“Establish Greek schools…” The timeless call of Saint Kosmas of Aetolia found a tireless successor in Archimandrite Hierotheos Kourtesis. From Corfu to Thessaloniki, and ultimately to Melbourne, Vasileios – his name before ordination – dedicated his life to the Church, to education, and to the spiritual support of the Greek diaspora in Australia. Alongside his revered late uncle, Archimandrite Hierotheos, he played a leading role in the founding of Australia’s first Greek Orthodox day school, the St John College. He supported thousands of migrants through both hardship and celebration, preserving their faith and Greek identity. His elevation to the rank of Archimandrite in 2024, bearing the name of his beloved uncle, marked the culmination of a life devoted to service, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the Hellenism of the Fifth Continent.
