From his childhood in 1960s Brisbane, raised amid the psalmody of his cantor father, Stylianos Scoutas felt from an early age the call to follow the way of the priesthood and the Church. At the age of nineteen, he left his homeland to study at the Theological School of Thessaloniki, and upon returning to his birthplace was ordained Deacon in the very church where he had once served as an altar boy. Life brought him into the company of enlightened and virtuous spiritual fathers, leading him to pioneering initiatives for Greek-Australian youth, including the establishment of significant charitable institutions and the founding of Australia’s first Greek Orthodox day college. Despite hardships, trials of health, and unceasing challenges, the Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne continues to guide souls towards the Orthodox Church and to Christ.
