School, home, church – the early years of Elisavet Kolovou from the village of Vourvoura in Arcadia were imbued with childhood innocence. Nothing in the life of the priest’s daughter, Georgios Vastis, hinted that one day she would cross oceans and unknown lands, eventually finding herself on the fifth continent! Yet it was there, in Australia, that the girl would grow into a woman – working, marrying, and becoming a mother. Her “talisman” against the “stormy seas” she faced abroad? Her steadfast belief that everything can be resolved with enough patience, perseverance, and love.
