Nikoleta Poulopoulos was still a child in Piraeus when she lost her father. Marked by hardship and war, her early years taught her from a young age that in order to survive in post-war Greece, she would have to rely solely on her own strength. As she grew up, she moved to Athens, where she learned the craft of dressmaking and threw herself with passion into the struggle for a better life. At seventeen, she got married; by eighteen, she was a mother. But life had other plans… The “sirens” of migration began to sound sweetly in her husband’s ears, and he eventually convinced her that beyond the oceans and seas, a better future awaited them. A fresh start in exotic, largely unknown Australia.

Nikoleta departed on her journey to eternity in December 2024.
