Longing for sweets she couldn’t buy, gazing at dolls in toy shop windows, and worrying that a new war might take her father away… Angela Vourdami’s childhood in Ilisia, Athens, was overshadowed by deprivation and need. However, when she began corresponding with a young man who had emigrated to the exotic land of Australia, the military officer’s daughter made the bold decision to leave her homeland. She left behind her strict yet loving father, the blue and white of her country, and her old life. Though she struggled in the Antipodes, she ultimately succeeded in building the life she had always dreamed of – the life she once admired behind the glass windows of her youth.
