Born in a village in Lower Egypt, Paraschos Pezas knew from a young age what it meant to grow up outside of Greece. After finishing his schooling, he enlisted in the air force, as he couldn’t shake the horrors of war from his mind… the German and Italian shells that nearly obliterated his home. After emigrating to Greece, through his training and service, he met people from all over the world, forging particularly strong ties with Australians. This was one of the many reasons that, in 1951, he found himself on the dock of a harbour, boarding a ship bound for the Antipodes…
