Theofanis Emmanouilidis from the village of Tropaiouchos in the Florina region encountered many “tempests” in his life. He was eighteen when he packed his few belongings and sailed to Australia. In the Antipodes, he got married, became a father, and fought for his dreams and ideals. His first refuge was at the Bonegilla migrant reception centre, before he could stand on his own two feet and begin earning a living. From the factories of the Fifth Continent to owning his own furniture workshop, this Greek migrant proved that dreams alone aren’t enough to find a new homeland – hard work is essential too.
