Dionysios Skouris survived the devastating 1953 earthquake in his homeland of Kefalonia. For years, he toiled on ship decks, crossing the Atlantic on long voyages. He dared to dream of a future in the “land of endless opportunities,” a country that rewards those with a passion for hard work – Australia! In the Fifth Continent, he bonded with fellow Greeks on football fields and in cinemas, exchanging stories of a homeland they may have left behind, but never stopped “guarding” deep in their hearts. Yet, when in 1977 he decided to return with his family to his beloved homeland, only one thought occupied his mind: the journey back to Australia.
