“How the years go by, sweet dreams, like swallows, they fly far away.” The voice that musically accompanied so many moments in the lives of expatriate Greeks in Australia belongs to John Tikis from Molyvos, Lesbos. He sang from the back of a donkey in his picturesque village, from the bow of the “Patris” as he sailed towards his future, and on the stage of the Zorba Night Club in front of the whole of Sydney. Whether through his captivating live performances in nightclubs across Greece, Australia, and even China, or via his television show, the “musical staff” of Greek music in the Fifth Continent would not have been the same without John Tikis.
