Born in Rhodes, the “jewel” of the Dodecanese, Elias Fragoulis grew up in challenging conditions during the Italian occupation. With the departure of the occupiers and the revival of hope, young Elias began studying Byzantine music and soon became a chanter, a sacred calling that would accompany him throughout his life. Responding to the invitation of his already expatriated sister, he decided to emigrate to Australia in search of new opportunities for growth and career development. There, he immediately threw himself into hard work, first as a factory labourer and later as a chanter in the churches of the Greek diaspora. With dedication and perseverance, he supported not only the family he had left behind in Greece but also the one he built in distant Australia, forging a path filled with faith, struggle, and devotion.
