Born in 1945 in Cairo, Egypt, Stavros Economidis longed for a homeland he had never known. Everything he learned about Greece and Cyprus from his parents, the future actor and director put to use in Australia. There, he connected with the Greek community and dedicated himself to theatre and the arts. Through the Greek Artists’ Ensemble in Sydney, through packed theatre halls and makeshift stages in remote areas of the country, Stavros Economidis proved that all Greek migrants can be protagonists in the history of Australia.
